Released from Adelanto ICE Detention: Héctor’s Story

Real Client Success Stories

Héctor Márquez: Released from Adelanto and Now Pursuing Legal Residency

Héctor Márquez, originally from Mexico, was wrongfully detained and held at the ICE detention center in Adelanto for six weeks. He was on his way to work when masked agents violently forced him out of his car.

“These were the hardest moments and weeks of my life… we were immigrants from all over the world imprisoned because our only ‘crime’ was wanting to work to provide a better life for our families,” he says.

His wife, Christina, contacted immigration attorney Denise P. Cabrera to represent Héctor.

“Without wasting any time, I called her and she quickly analyzed the case because we were racing against the clock, fearing Héctor could be deported,” Christina explains.

The attorney stated that she immediately notified ICE that she was Héctor’s legal representative. “During the hearings, I explained to the judge that he is married to a U.S. citizen, that he is honest and hardworking, and that his detention had been a mistake.”

Héctor was released with the support of strong legal representation and is now pursuing lawful permanent residency without leaving the country through a family petition filed by his U.S. citizen wife and a Parole in Place (PIP) benefit, since his son serves in the U.S. Marines.

Héctor’s experience reflects the full spectrum of hardship faced by mixed-status families and highlights the importance of having a skilled immigration attorney to represent them in court and under complex immigration laws.

“Attorney Denise made a tremendous difference in my case compared to other ICE detainees; she acted quickly to get me out of Adelanto and has our full trust to continue representing us,” Héctor states.

Do You Have a Family Member Detained by ICE?

Immigration detentions can happen unexpectedly and create fear and uncertainty for the entire family. However, fast and strategic legal action can make the difference between deportation and release.

Every case is different. Factors such as a spouse’s immigration status, children serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, prior immigration history, and criminal background may open legal options that many families are unaware of.
